How to Block Websites in Browser

 

User can block any specific website in browser in several way. In this article user can find solution about blocking website in some popular browser by using Extensions and hosts file.

 


1.                1.      Google Chrome

·     Open Chrome browser and click on 3 dots from corner or go to settings and click on extensions

·         Go to Extensions and click on Manage Extensions

·         Go to Chrome Web Store

·   Search for BlockSite and click on extension named BlockSite and click on Add to Chrome

·      Once installed, go to the extension’s settings, and add the URLs of websites you want to block.

·         You can also set a password to prevent changes to the blocked list.








       2.     Mozilla Firefox

·       Open Firefox browser and click on 3 lines (!!!) from corner go to Add-ons and themes or go to settings Extensions and themes

·    Search for BlockSite and click on extension named BlockSite and click on Add to Firefox

·      Once installed, go to the extension’s settings, and add the URLs of websites you want to block.

·         Install the add-on and configure it to block specific websites





        3.    Microsoft Edge

·         Open Microsoft Edge browser and click on 3 dots (…) from corner go to Extensions

·         Click on Get Extension for Microsoft Edge

·         Search for BlockSite and click on Get to install the extension on Microsoft Edge

·         Add the websites you want to block in the extension’s settings




       4.     Using Hosts File (Windows or macOS)

        This method works across all browsers and is useful for blocking websites on a system-                           wide level.

       For Windows:

·         Navigate to `C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts`.

·         Open the `hosts` file with Notepad (need administrator privileges).

·         Add a new line at the bottom of the file in this format:

·         127.0.0.1 www.blockedwebsite.com (website address)

·         Save the file and restart your browser.

         For macOS:

·         Open the Terminal and type `sudo nano /etc/hosts`.

·         Enter your password and add a line in the format:

·         127.0.0.1 www.blockedwebsite.com (website address)

·         Save the file and restart your browser.

         5.    Using Router Settings

·         If you want to block websites for all devices on your network:

·       Log in to your router’s admin panel (typically by entering `192.168.1.1` or `192.168.0.1` in your browser).

·         Look for Parental Controls or URL Filtering.

·         Add the websites you want to block.
