Fix Android Battery Draining Fast After Security Update

Many users are reporting battery draining issues after installing the June 2025 Android Security Update. This problem is affecting a wide range of devices including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Pixel, and others.

If your Android phone’s battery is dying quickly after the update — don’t panic! This guide explains the possible reasons and provides practical solutions to fix battery drain issues effectively.

 Why Is This Happening?

The June 2025 security update, while improving device security, may have:

  • Introduced background process bugs
  • Reset some battery optimization settings
  • Enabled location, Bluetooth, or syncing services by default
  • Caused certain apps to misbehave or stay active unnecessarily

How to Fix Battery Drain After June 2025 Update

1.  Restart Your Device

A simple restart helps kill background tasks stuck during the update.
Steps: Press and hold Power → Tap "Restart"

2.  Check Battery Usage Stats

Go to:
Settings > Battery > Battery Usage
Look for any unusual apps using high power like:

  • Google Play Services
  • Any app showing high “Background usage”

Force Stop or uninstall if not necessary.

 3.  Turn Off Battery-Hungry Features

Temporarily disable the following:

  • Location (GPS)
  • Bluetooth (if not needed)
  • Mobile Hotspot / NFC
  • Auto Sync for Gmail, Drive, etc.

These features may have turned on again after the update.

4.  Restrict Background Activity

Go to:

Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Battery > Restrict background activity
Apply this to social media, shopping, or news apps that constantly sync in the background.

5.  Enable Battery Saver Mode

Turn on Battery Saver from Quick Settings or:
Settings > Battery > Battery Saver

This reduces background activity and visual effects that consume extra power.

6.  Clear Cache Partition (Advanced)

Sometimes old cache causes battery conflicts after updates.

Steps to Wipe Cache Partition:

  • Power off the device
  • Press and hold Power + Volume Up (varies by brand)
  • Use volume keys to highlight “Wipe Cache Partition”
  • Confirm with Power button
  • Reboot

This will not delete your data.

7.  Update All Apps

Outdated apps may not work well with new Android system updates.

Go to Google Play Store > Manage apps & device > Update all

8.  Install Any New Patch (If Available)

Sometimes manufacturers release a hotfix patch after reports of battery issues.
Check: Settings > Software Update

9.  Use Original Charger & Turn Off Fast Charging

Fast charging generates more heat and may worsen battery health.
Try disabling it:
Settings > Battery > More battery settings > Fast Charging (if available)

10.  Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If none of the above work and your phone is still draining fast:

Backup your data

Go to: Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset

Only use this step if the issue is severe and persistent.

Tips to Prevent Future Battery Drain

  • Avoid installing updates immediately — wait a few days
  • Regularly restart your phone
  • Keep your apps updated
  • Uninstall unused apps
  • Turn off background sync for non-essential apps

Battery issues after updates are frustrating, but most of them are temporary and fixable. Try the steps above and monitor your phone’s performance for 2–3 days. In many cases, the system settles after a few charging cycles.

If the problem still continues, keep an eye out for a follow-up patch from your phone manufacturer.
